Compass Group wins £48m Cardiff City Stadium deal
Compass Group has won a £48m turnover deal to cater at the new Cardiff City Stadium, which will be home to Cardiff City FC and Cardiff Blues rugby club.
The ten-year deal, first revealed last December on Kitchen Rat, will see Compass operate all match day and non-match day catering and events at the stadium when it opens in July 2009.
The scope of the contract includes food and beverages for 150 metres of public kiosks, 14 private hospitality boxes, two restaurants, a banqueting suite and a chairman's lounge.
Compass Group said it has worked closely with Stadium Consultants to design and fit out the catering and hospitality areas.
The consultancy was set up in May 2008 by former Compass man Michael Wheeler and David Spencer, also ex-Compass and previously operations director at Leeds United Football Club, where he worked alongside Peter Ridsdale, now Cardiff City chairman.
Alan Flitcroft, chief operating officer at Cardiff City, said: "We selected Compass Group because of the quality of its offering, its expertise in running major stadia, and its proven ability to sell non-match day activities, such as conferences and exhibitions, through its Lime Venue Portfolio business."
Matthew Thompson, managing director of sports, leisure and hospitality at Compass, said securing the contract at a new build site was a major win and would complement the caterer's existing deals at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and the Liberty Stadium in Swansea.
