Compass wins £28m extension on college contract

Compass Group has won a seven-year extension, worth £28m in total turnover, on its catering contract at Highbury College in Portsmouth.

The new contract will see the caterer's education division, Chartwells, upgrading catering facilities to support the college's £35m new-build project in Highbury Campus.

The catering offer at the college, which has 2,500 full time and 8,500 part time students across two campuses, includes Costa Coffee, traditional French baguettes from TouJours and sub-style sandwiches from Mondo Subs.

Jonathon Cox, finance director at Highbury College, which first awarded the catering to Compass in 2000, said: "We have a long-standing relationship with Chartwells and we are pleased to confirm the continuation of the partnership.

"Over the years, the food offering has been well-received by students and Chartwells has proven itself to be responsive and flexible to the college's requirements."

Chartwells also has catering contracts at nearby Eastleigh College and Alton Sixth Form College.
