Compass wins Soil Association organic accreditation in London

Compass Group has become the first contract caterer in London to receive the Soil Association's organic certification for its restaurant at law firm Lawrence Graham (LG).

LG becomes the first workplace in the capital to gain the accreditation and only the second in the UK after JCB's head quarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, whose contract is held by Compass-owned Eurest.

As well as a range of regular organic products on the menu, LG's 600-strong workforce is served one fully organic meal every month, a move Compass said it hopes to roll out across a number of sites in the coming years.

The Soil Association offers three different types of restaurant and caterer certification including organic individual menu item(s); organic dishes; and 100% organic operations.

Robert Simmons, Compass general manager at LG, said that both companies have been working with the Soil Association to gain the official accreditation since January.

"We are overjoyed to have gained official recognition for our work and hopefully other managers will see what we have done and implement it where they are," he said.

James Twine, commercial director at the Soil Association, added: "I hope that demand will encourage Compass to roll out the organic meal option to other Compass sites and staff members and motivate other firms to follow suit."
