Conference will put catering at the heart of healthcare

Under the theme "At the Heart of Healthcare", the Hospital Caterers Association conference will highlight the central role of catering in patient care, both in nutritional terms and in making patients' stay in hospital a pleasant one.

The conference will discuss whether hospital catering is improving, and why nutrition remains an issue.

HCA chairman Alison McCree said: "It is time for hospital caterers to shift their emphasis towards nutritional outcomes. There is also a strong view amongst hospital caterers that provision of food needs to be flexible and individualised, with a strong emphasis on patient choice."

Patients' and nurses' perspectives on hospital catering will be considered, as will training needs and skills gaps among the hospital catering workforce.
