Cucina extends two school meals contracts, worth over £2m
Education catering specialist Cucina Restaurants has extended two school meals contracts worth in excess of £2m, keeping its 100% retention record intact.
Cucina has signed a new £1.15m deal to operate at the Harefield Academy in Middlesex for a further five years. The contract, which started in 2007, will see the caterer continue to deliver school meals to the Academy's 900 students.
The second contract extension is at Edgebarrow School in Crowthorne Berkshire, which Cucina has also managed since 2007. The £1.1m deal is for five years and 1,250 pupils will continue to use the service.
Commenting on his company's 100% contract retention rate, Cucina managing director Steve Quinn said: "We're obviously delighted to retain both of these contracts.
"We're always looking to develop new, exciting approaches to the way we offer delicious, nutritious food to our young customers."
Soon after Cucina's initial appointment, Jane Carpenter, business and enterprise manager at Edgebarrow School, said that take-up of school lunches had soared, adding: "Cucina has a desire to be part of the school rather than just being our caterers."
And within a year of Cucina's appointment at the Harefield Academy, director of resources and business development Dr Phil Bassill said: "The majority of our students now eat school dinners, and benefit from healthy, well-prepared, exciting food.
"We have seen Cucina's positive influence on the students' energy, behaviour and attention spans."
