Cucina picks up two new school contracts in Essex and Kent

Education caterer Cucina has picked up two new school contracts in Essex and Kent worth around £1m over five years.

Cucina will begin delivery of services at Maltings Academy in Witham, Essex, at the end of October, serving 963 pupils. Turnover is estimated to be £600,000 for three years and £1m over five years.

The contract at York Road Junior School in Dartford, Kent, is an extension of Cucina's existing contract with the Leigh Academies Trust, which has had catering services provided by Cucina since September 2011. York Road has 337 pupils on its roll.

Cucina managing director Steve Quinn commented: "Our carefully evolved business model allows us to offer our young customers a vast choice of yummy, wholesome food every day - before, during and after school. We are proving, everywhere we operate, that this is what makes the difference to uptake of school meals."

The new contracts bring the number of Cucina's school restaurants to 40.
