Elior extends contract with Waterstone's bookshops for 10 more years

Elior UK has extended its business relationship with bookseller Waterstone's with a new 10-year deal worth in the region of £10m.

The new contract sees the launch of the 5th View Seafood Bar, following a refurbishment project to extend the hospitality space, with Elior's consultant chef, Anton Edelmann, providing menu consultation and chef training and development.

Elior's partnership with Waterstone's began in 2005 when the contract caterer signed a deal to operate the 5th View café and bar that occupied half of the fifth floor of the Waterstone's on Piccadilly building.

As part of the new contract, renewed for a further decade without going out to tender, Elior was given the entire fifth floor in which to expand - previously more than half of the space was used to sell books.

In addition, the reading room was relaunched to appeal to new customers and local residents and workers.

Adam Elliott, managing director of concessions, Elior UK, said: "We believe that we have created a venue that truly reflects the needs of existing customers, while introducing a broader appeal to attract new patrons.

"For example, the reading area provides a relaxed and sumptuous place for literary fans, while the new 5th View Seafood Bar offers something a little special in this busy area of the West End."

Andrew Milner-Walker, operations development manager at Waterstone's, said that Elior's understanding of its clients business was the reason for the contract renewal.

"The expansion and refurbishment adds real value to our West End store for both our customers and the general public, and the new Seafood Bar introduces a completely fresh dimension to the venue that broadens its appeal," he added. "We very much look forward to continuing to work closely with Elior and evolving the 5th View."
