Farmhouse Fare

Ravens Oak is a tiny dairy on the Allwood family farm in Cheshire that since 1999 has produced a range of soft cheeses, including one made from the organic cows' milk produced on the farm. Last year Lancashire family cheesemaker Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses invested in the business to help modernise its packaging and distribution. Sandra Allwood remains in charge of cheesemaking, with help from Gillian Hall of Butlers. The range includes three soft cheeses made from cows', goats' and buffalo milk, plus the latest addition, made from ewes' milk, called Radmore. The company says Radmore is best eaten young, tastes of fresh hay and lanolin and has a firm, silky texture. The range is available in 150g, 450g or 1kg sizes.
