Fire at Sol Melia's Marconi House development

Fire has broken out on the roof of Marconi House in London's West End, which is in the process of being turned into a five-star hotel and apartments.

Hotel chain Sol Meliá bought the incomplete development at 336-337 Strand last year.

The ME by by Meliá was expected to open in 2012, although it is not known at this stage whether the hotel's development has been affected.

The blaze affected about a quarter of the 100sq m (1,076sq ft) roof, London Fire Brigade said.

There were no reports of people trapped or injured and the cause of the blaze is unknown.
