Gidleigh Park and Midsummer House awarded five rosettes in 2014 AA guides

Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon, and Midsummer House in Cambridge have joined the ranks of the most celebrated establishments in the UK after being awarded five rosettes in the 2014 AA guides to UK hotels, restaurants, pubs and bed and breakfasts.

The announcement of the new ratings was made at tonight's AA Hospitality Awards, held at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Commenting on Midsummer House being awarded the maximum five rosettes, chef patron Daniel Clifford said he was "blown away" by the news. "I'm very proud of the team," he told Caterer and Hotelkeeper after the awards. "It's what we all work very hard for."

Gidleigh Park and Midsummer House now join an elite band of 11 hotels and restaurants which have been awarded five-AA-rosettes. They include: Marcus Wareing at The Berkley, London Tom Aikens, London; Hibiscus, London; Sketch (Lecture Room & Library), London ; The Fat Duck, Bray; L'Enclume, Cartmel; Restaurant Sat Bains, Nottingham; Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons, Great Milton; and Michael Wignall at The Latymer, Bagshot.

Five-AA-rosettes are awarded to establishments which the guide's team of inspectors believe represent the finest restaurants in the UK and could compete with the best in the world. They are recognised for being individual, displaying "breathtaking" culinary skills and setting standards to which other aspire.

A number of new three and four rosettes have also been awarded, taking the total number of three rosettes to 171 and four rosettes to 29.
