Gift voucher sales up 13% as restaurant deals grow

Sales of gift cards across leisure operators and retailers were among the most-improved across the gift card and voucher industry in the third quarter of 2013.

Category-specific gift cards made up almost 80% of consumer sales while multi-choice also did well, growing by 67%.

The gift voucher, cards and "stored-value solutions" market is said to be worth around £4.7b.

Andrew Johnson, director general of the UKGCVA, said: "We are extremely pleased with the phenomenal level of consumer sales over the summer months. Consumer sentiment towards gift cards and vouchers appears to be fast building momentum. This is a very encouraging position to be in the run up to Christmas."

The UKGVCA represents the gift vouchers and cards industry, and helps raise the profile of the use of vouchers and gift cards in the UK.
