Helen Grant replaces Hugh Robertson as tourism minister

Helen Grant, the Conservative MP for Maidstone, has replaced Hugh Robertson as tourism minister.

Robertson, who has been moved to the Foreign Office as part of a ministerial reshuffle earlier this week, had responsibility for tourism for the last 12 months.

It was just part of Robertson's remit, since he also occupied the role of sports minister.

Grant will now take over Robertson's responsibilities for sports, equalities and tourism, working under Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Maria Miller.

There had been no official indication yesterday that she would take on the tourism brief, but the British Hospitality Association confirmed the move this morning.

There has not been a full-time minister for tourism since John Penrose stepped down from the position in September last year.
