Hospitality Action asks for winter donations in Keep Out the Chill campaign
Industry charity Hospitality Action (HA) is calling for donations this winter as part of its ‘Keep Out the Chill' campaign.
HA is asking that those who receive the Government fuel allowance of £200, but do not need the money, to donate the grant to those who do need the extra cash. Any funds raised will go directly towards current or previous employees within hospitality who are struggling to pay their winter fuel bills. Last year the charity raised £22,000 for fuel bills, although this is the group's first official fuel campaign.
The Winter Fuel Payment is an automatic Government grant of £200 given to all those born on or before 5 January 1953, with most payments received between November or December. If a recipient donates their grant to HA's scheme, the amount could help out two households with their energy costs.
Vic Laws of AVL Consultancy Limited commented: "As the weather worsens, many hospitality employees and those retired from our industry will be struggling once again. Hospitality Action wants to alleviate the financial stress they face so if you are able to make a Winter Fuel Payment donation to the charity, like I have, please do."
The donation can also be Gift Aided, with any tax already paid on the income reclaimed back from the Government. Donations are being taken now at www.hospitalityaction.org/donate.
HA seeks to financially and emotionally support current and previous employees within the hospitality industry. Last year, it spent over £595,000 helping those fallen on hard times, and also supported 1,790 people via grants and its befriending scheme.
