Hoteliers dominate Sunday Times Rich List 2015

Hotel owners made up the majority of the hospitality industry's representatives in the Sunday Times Rich List 2015.

Topping the list were Galen and George Weston and family, who have an estimated fortune of £11b and sit in third place. The Wittington Investments arm of the Weston family last year acquired the Grand Hotel in Brighton for around £50m, to add to its Richmond Hill hotel in Surrey. Both are managed by Kew Green Hotels.

At number five, with a total of £9.7b are David and Simon Reuben, who have investments in pubs and hotels. They fully own a portfolio of boutique hotels, mostly in the south east of England, including the Lingfield Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club. They have entered into a 50:50 joint venture, with Park Plaza Hotels, to develop a hotel under the Art'otel brand in Hoxton, London, and hold a 7% stake in luxury group Belmond. The brothers also own the Wellington Pub Company, which has approximately 850 tenanted pubs, managed on their behalf by Criterion Asset Management.

In ninth place with £8.5b is the Duke of Westminster. The Grosvenor Estate, an extensive property portfolio owned by the Duke of Westminster includes the Chester Grosvenor hotel and the Beaumont hotel in London, which is leased to Corbin & King.

Sir David and Frederick Barclay (pictured), who last week agreed the sale of their their stake in the Maybourne Hotel Group to Qatari investors are 13th in the list with a total estimated wealth of £6.5b (up £500m on last year).

Two places below them in 15th is Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber, worth just over £5.9b (down £225m). Al Jaber, 56, owns London-based MBI International Holdings Group. Among MBI assets are JJW Hotels Resorts, which runs the Scotsman hotel in Edinburgh.
