Lindley CEO Alex McCrindle dies unexpectedly
Alex McCrindle, chief executive officer of contract caterer Lindley Group, has unexpectedly passed away, aged 63.
One of the founding members of the Lindley Catering management buy-in team, McCrindle joined forces with Paul Biffen, sales and marketing director, in July 2001 to acquire Lindley Catering from entrepreneur Peter Coates.
A Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, McCrindle had been chief executive officer of Lindley since 2004.
Paying tribute to McCrindle, Biffen said: "Alex had over 25 years of experience and knowledge of the entertainment and venue management industry and his guiding hand has been very much in evidence in helping us achieve our ambition for Lindley to become the leading sports and leisure venue foodservice company.
"On a personal level, I have lost not only a colleague and mentor, but also a very good friend and my thoughts and condolences are with his family."
Lindley finance director David Hulme added: "Anyone who worked with Alex would know what a truly wonderful man he was and how his belief in hard work, honesty and loyalty both to his clients and the family of people that make Lindley the business that it is, will be his legacy."
Lindley Group's Chairman, Ian Daly, echoed these sentiments: "We will all miss Alex enormously. He has been a wonderful colleague and friend whose humility and integrity was recognised and respected by all who came into contact with him. Our job now is to ensure that his values and concern for the people that he worked with live on in the Lindley Group".
Russell Morgan, chairman of the Crown Group of companies had known McCrindle for more than 15 years. He said: "Alex was a kind, honest and genuine man who will be missed in the industry tremendously.
"Our wishes go out to his family. Lindley wouldn't be what it is today without his energy, dedication and professionalism."
McCrindle passed away suddenly after suffering a heart attack on November 4, 2009. He leaves his wife, Joyce; daughter, Cheryl; and son, Rory.
