Lindley Venue Catering has been forced to rename its recently launched hotdog brand after it was found that New York Jack's shared its name with an US gentleman's social club of dubious reputation.
The caterer, part of the Lindley Group, had piloted the hotdog brand at Tottenham Hotspur FC's White Hart Lane stadium to huge success.
After sales grew by an impressive 28%, Lindley earlier this month announced the rollout of the brand to other clients.
But the discovery of the niche New York group of the same name led Lindley to quickly rebrand the retail concept.
Adam Elliott, chief executive of the Lindley Group, explained: "The name was very thoroughly researched when Lindley registered the trademark several months ago and at that time no issues were found.
"Subsequently, on seeking to roll out the concept following a successful pilot, we became aware of the existence of a social club in New York operating under the name.
"We immediately took the decision to change the name of our branded retail concept to Frank's Original New York Streetdogs to disassociate our outlets from any connection with the club in the States."
