Mars Foodservice launches student catering challenge
Mars Foodservice, the manufacturers of Uncle Ben's and Dolmio, are encouraging young chefs to showcase their talent through the launch of the brand's Foodservice Student Catering Challenge.
To enter, students must design two dishes suitable for a casual-dining menu using Dolmio and Uncle Ben's products. Students can choose to make either a vegetarian starter and a gluten-free main course, or a gluten-free main course and a dessert.
A panel of judges will choose eight entrants to go through to a final cook-off on 23 January 2017 at the Great Hospitality Show.
There, the students will be asked to create a three-course menu in the hope of being named ‘best starter', ‘best main course', ‘best dessert' or ‘best overall menu'.
The winner of each category will receive £200 of Nisbets vouchers to spend on professional catering equipment. The winner of ‘best overall menu' will receive £400 of Nisbets vouchers.
All the finalists will receive a Dolmio & Uncle Ben's Foodservice Student Catering Challenge chef's jacket embroidered with their name.
Willem Fijten, culinary product design scientist in the Mars Global Product Development team, said: "Mars Foodservice is extremely dedicated to all aspects of the future within foodservice and engaging with the next generation of chefs is the next step in supporting this global initiative.
"I'm hugely excited by the challenge and am looking forward to seeing what our future young chefs have in store for us!"
