Michelin appoints new international director of its guides
Michelin has appointed Michael Ellis as international director of its travel guides following the departure of Jean-Luc Naret, who left at the beginning of this year.
New York-born Ellis, who will take responsibility next January, has been promoted to the role having been vice-president of marketing and sales for Michelin's Two Wheel Tyre division since 2007.
He will oversee the company's 26 guides, which cover 23 countries in Europe, the USA and Asia.
Before joining Michelin, Ellis worked in the packaging sector for 17 years, while in the tourism industry, he headed up Club Med's cruise division and worked as sales director at International Distillers.
He attended the INSEAD business school in France, where he gained an MBA in 1987, and in addition to English and French is fluent in Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
Naret, who oversaw Michelin's travel guides for six years, now works as a consultant and continues to advise Michelin. Likewise Michelin's former UK editor Derek Bulmer now runs a consultancy.
The 2012 Michelin guide to Great Britain and Ireland will be published on 6 October as the first edition under new editor Rebecca Burr.
