Monica Galetti creates limited edition menu for Searcys at the Gherkin
MasterChef: The Professionals judge Monica Galetti has teamed up with Searcys to create a special limited edition menu for its restaurant at the Gherkin building in the City of London.
Galetti's set lunch and dinner menus will be available on limited dates during January and February 2016 with head chef Renee Miller (pictured left), formerly of Le Gavroche, overseeing their delivery.
Galetti (pictured right) has teamed up with Alastair Storey, chairman of Searcys' parent company WSH, to launch her first solo venture. Named Mere, it is expected to open in Fitzrovia next autumn.
Commenting on the menu for the Gherkin restaurant, she said: "Inside and outside the building you can appreciate the stunning architecture, which makes it an inspiring place for a private members' club and restaurant. "It is an exciting concept to create a menu for a limited public opening of this interesting venue.
"The inspiring challenge is bringing winter produce to the plate with imagination, creativity and colour."
The seasonal menu includes starters such as black curry scallops, main dishes of short rib of beef and pumpkin tart, and Guinness and ginger float for dessert.
Karim LeCloarec of Searcys the Gherkin says: "While our restaurant is primarily for tenants of the building and members of our club, this exciting collaboration with Monica Galetti allows us to host a star of London's vibrant culinary scene and showcases the menu to a wider audience for a limited time."
Galetti left her job as senior sous chef at two-Michelin-starred restaurant Le Gavroche in March with a view to launching her first solo venture. She had worked at the iconic London restaurant for 12 years, having started as a commis chef. Galetti told The Caterer that the decision to leave was prompted by a major life event last year.
