Nigel Haworth teams up with Sodexo Prestige for golf's Open Championship
Michelin-starred chef and local food champion Nigel Haworth has partnered with Sodexo Prestige to contribute a dish to the caterer's offer at this year's Open Championship.
Sodexo Prestige will cater for around 6,000 hospitality guests and more than 150,000 spectators at the event, which will be held at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club from 19 to 22 July.
Haworth's connection to the event underlines the caterer's efforts to source local produce from the region for the official catering offer - a commitment it makes each year according to the location of the Open Championship.
The chef-proprietor at the Michelin-starred Northcote in Lancashire, and 2009 Great British Menu winner, has contributed his signature dish, Lancashire hotpot, to the event's fine-dining restaurant.
He said: "It's a great honour to be asked to be involved in the Open Championship. I love golf and would dearly like to play more, though life as a chef doesn't always allow this, so I'm certainly looking forward to spending the day at this world-class event."
Local suppliers selected by Sodexo Prestige for this year's event include Greenhalgh's Bakery, Dewlay Cheesemakers and the Port of Lancaster Smokehouse.
Tom Parry, Sodexo Prestige executive chef responsible for the Open Championship Official Hospitality, said they were chosen because they each produced outstanding foods.
"I visited many local suppliers in the build-up to the Open but these suppliers were the ones that stood out to me and I look forward to working with them during the week," he added.
