Nominations for 2014 Cateys now open

Nominations for the 2014 Catey Awards are now open, with three new categories up for grabs this year.

Along with the best and brightest individuals and initiatives from across the hospitality industry, this year we will be recognising an international high achiever, a wine expert and the best employer in the industry.

The full awards recognise the achievements from all aspects of the industry, from individuals to companies, from established names to newcomers.

For 30 years, they have celebrated managers, restaurateurs, caterers, pubs, hotels, menus and chefs, as well as commending the most innovative policies on accessibility, sustainability, education and health.

All entrants are nominated, selected and judged by their peers. The awards will be presented at a glittering dinner ceremony on Tuesday 1 July.

Nominations are being accepted via the website, www.cateys.com. All entries must be accompanied by a supporting statement, and the closing date is 14 February.

There are three new awards this year: the International Award, the Wine & Spirit Ambassador Award and the Best Employer Award.

The first will commend an individual who has made a significant contribution to the global hospitality industry, while the second will go to a person who has shown understanding and dedication to promoting wines, Champagnes and spirits in the UK.

Finally, the Best Employer Award will champion the organisation that can prove that its practices, training and environment allows it to motivate and maintain the country's best staff. This is one of two awards whose nominations do not initially go through the Cateys website. Companies or organisations hoping to win the Best Employer category must first enter (and be shortlisted for) the Best Places to Work in Hospitality Award (www.bestplacestoworkinhospitality.co.uk).

Similarly, the Menu of the Year Award is chosen from a shortlist of menus that have appeared in the Caterer and Hotelkeeper regular magazine feature, Menuwatch, over the past 12 months.

Last year's winners included Fred Sirieix for Manager of the Year, Sodexo Prestige for Best Use of Technology, the Pipe and Glass Inn for the Pub and Bar Award, and Hotel 41 in London for Hotel of the Year.

Simon Rogan picked up the best Independent Restaurateur, and the Chef Award, while Ollie Dabbous won best Newcomer. Compass Group UK scooped the Health and Nutrition Award, Sticky Walnut took Menu of the Year and Michel Roux Jr won the Special Award, which recognises exceptional contributions, consistent quality, creativity or originality.
