Catering, cleaning and facilities management company Orian Solutions has won a three-year catering contract worth £350,000 at Washingwell School, Whickham, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Orian Solutions was chosen from two tenders. It will provide a fully managed catering service to the school which aims to "deliver a good selection of healthy, nutritious food which is cost effective and gives value for money to students and school staff."
The contract has the option to be extended for a further two years after the end date in July 2020.
The school will provide and be responsible for all kitchen appliances, which they will repair, maintain and replace if necessary.
The members of staff currently employed under the current catering contract are due to be automatically transfer to the new contractor, Orian Solutions.
Graeme Gunn, operations director at Orian, said: "We're delighted to be working with Washingwell Primary School. Our appointment sees Orian continue to expand into the North East of England with our primary school meals service, Lunch Shop.
"We're very much enjoying working with the school and its pupils to create healthy, nutritious and delicious menus. To create them we held focus groups with children, staff and parents and the end result is a bespoke menu which takes into account the preferences of the children and the aspirations of the school. They also all meet national nutritional guidelines.
"Some additional elements of the food service we are providing for Washingwell include creating a salad bar where children act as "salad buddies". Wearing a specially designed uniform, they take turns in serving their peers from the salad bar. Our Lunch Shop online ordering and payment system has also been installed as part of our service."
