Most memorable Cateys moments

Best moment: making an entrance dressed like Fred Astaire (2001).
Worst moment: attempting to dance like Fred Astaire (2002).
Forbes Mutch, Group Editor of the Caterer Group
This is my 10th Cateys so I have witnessed some pretty surprised winners over the years. In 1999 Annie and Germain Schwab took the Independent Restaurateur of the Year Catey. They had no idea they were up for the award and had nearly not come as their attendance meant closing the restaurant for the evening. They were in total disbelief and couldn't believe that I had sat there all evening and not told them. Well, of course, my lips were sealed.
Jenny Webster, Hotels Editor, Caterer Group
My worst memory is from 2000. We held the event at the Honorary Artillery Company's grounds in the City of London. After drinks, 1,400 guests took their seats in the marquee only to be plunged into darkness five minutes later, when both generators overloaded due to the kitchen ovens. Candles were quickly lit and wine poured liberally. Luckily we had power back after 15 minutes.
Jane Cartwright, projects director at the Caterer Group
