Do you understand the implications of the new licensing act?

Yes we do. We have been prepared for some time, but the delay in introducing it has caused us frustration and expense. We also don't yet have full confidence in the new act's execution, and are concerned local authorities do not seem to have the resources they need to meet their obligations.
Derek Andrew, managing director, Pathfinder Pubs, the managed estate of Wolverhampton & Dudley
I do need more information about it, and haven't had anything through yet. Running the business demands so much of my time that it's something we'll deal with when it happens.
Jacquie Pern, co-owner and licensee, the Star Inn, Harome, North Yorkshire
We expect the new Licensing Act to bring long-term benefit to our industry. There will, however, be an initial burden on retailers to comply with local authority requirements. We have pledged to support our retailers by preparing their plans of premises and covering the cost, providing a template business operating plan and co-ordinating the final licence applications to local authorities.
Adrian Fawcett, chief operating officer, Punch Taverns
