Planning permission sought for Four Seasons' third London hotel

A planning application has been submitted for a Four Seasons Hotel and Residences at Heron Plaza in the City of London.

It forms the second phase of a £500m development by property group, Heron International, following on from the construction of the adjacent Heron Tower, an office building with a restaurant and bar on floors 38 to 40. On completion in March 2011, Heron Tower will be the tallest building in the City of London.

The Four Seasons Hotel and Residences, which is 150 metres from Liverpool Street Station, will be the first purpose-built, luxury hotel constructed in central London for 30 years.

The building will have an external screen which will be constructed from a natural copper alloy, to provide a contrast and balance to the stainless steel of Heron Tower. Energy sharing will be permitted by the linking of the two towers.

The hotel will be the fourth property to be managed by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in the UK. The company already has two hotels in London - one on Park Lane, which will re-open later this year following refurbishment, and one in Canary Wharf. Its third property is in Hampshire.

"Four Seasons is proud to be involved in this project which will be a great addition to our existing portfolio in the UK," said Scott Woroch, executive vice president, worldwide development of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

"We know that our guests will enjoy having the option to stay in the City within a new development that promises to revitalize and redefine the financial district."
