Sausage Roll Off 2017 line-up announced

The line up for the 2017 Sausage Roll Off, an annual sausage roll competition held at the Red Lion in Barnes, has been revealed.

Competing chefs include Simon Oakley from Rocksalt in Folkestone, Kent, Alan Paton from Nayland Hotel Golf and Spa in Leavenheath, Suffolk, and Greig Hunter of Morden Hall in South London.

The competition, which takes place at 7pm on 25 January, invites professional chefs from around the UK to take part in a live competition to create, roll and bake a dozen sausage rolls.

The judging panel - which includes: Graham Garrett, chef owner of the West House, in Biddenden, Kent; Neil Rankin, owner of Temper in London's Soho; Dan Doherty chef director of the Duck and Waffle in Bishopsgate, London; and Mark Poynton, chef owner of Alimentum in Cambridge - will expect the chefs to think outside the box with their recipes

Last year's winner, Phil Harrison won with a pheasant and black pudding sausage roll, with a turnip dip.

Ollie Couillaud, head chef at the Corner Restaurant and Champagne Bar at Selfridges, came in second with his sage, garlic and onion roll cooked in Jack Daniels. In third place, Jade Clarke, head chef at the Hinds Head in Aldermaston, created a venison and wild mushroom roll.

The 2017 winner will receive personalised I.O.Shen Knives.

The event, which is described on the website as 'a bit like the X Factor meets Masterchef', is open and free to the public.

Managed by Claire Morgan and Angus McKean, the Red Lion is a Fuller's pub that serves traditional British food pub.
