Shine Awards call for entries

The deadline for the annual Shine Awards, honouring outstanding achievement by women working in hospitality, travel and tourism, is fast approaching.

Now in its third year, the awards recognise women making a difference in the industry, aim to promote best practice and encourage women to consider careers in the hospitality sector.

There are six categories in all, including Business Woman of the Year, Business Expert of the Year and the special Shine Woman of the Year award. Entries are judged by a panel of industry experts, and winners will be announced early next year.

Avril Owton, owner of the Cloud hotel in Brockenhurst in the New Forest, scooped the title of Shine Woman of the Year 2006. She was recognised for the way she developed the Cloud hotel's business following the sudden death of her husband.

If you would like to nominate someone you feel deserves a Shine award, visit www.shineawards.com to download a nomination form or to e-mail details of your nomination.

The closing date for nominations is Friday 22 December. Winners will be announced next year, with the 2007 Shine Awards ceremony to be held in London at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel on 13 March 2007.
