Sodexo recognised as the world leader in diversity
Sodexo has been named as the global leader in diversity, according to a new index published this week.
The foodservice and facilities management firm ranked top of the list in DiversityInc's Top 50 Companies for Diversity, which saw only four hospitality businesses represented.
In particular, Sodexo was recognised for its ‘Spirit of Inclusion' programme, which was described as an example of a "focused, practical and extremely comprehensive mentoring effort".
The one-day workshop aimed at encouraging managers to devise tailored action plans that will maximise diversity and create an inclusive work environment for its staff was developed by Sodexo's head of diversity and engagement Sharon Kyle and supported by Sodexo's executive Diversity and Inclusion Council.
Kyle said: "To be named the top company in the UK is a huge honour and a fantastic reflection of the progress we have made in leveraging diversity and inclusion as a strategic priority in a relatively short period of time. "
Hotel groups Marriott International and Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide both featured on the shortlist at positions seven and 19 respectively.
DiversityInc described Marriott chairman and chief executive office Bill Marriott as a "remarkable leader" and added that the company's diverse demographics in its work force and its management reflect its efforts to mirror its marketplace.
Starwood was commended for creating "an inclusive workplace culture through a strong formal mentoring program and excellent work/life benefits."
Hospitality, entertainment and gaming business MGM Mirage came in at number 24.
The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list recognises firms that demonstrate strength in four areas: commitment from the chief executive office, human capital, corporate and organisational communications, and supplier diversity.
