Sodexo to celebrate 25 years of its Healthwise healthy eating programme

Sodexo has announced plans to celebrate 25 years of Healthwise, the firm's healthy eating, well-being and lifestyle programme, with a series of events.

The foodservice and facilities management firm will introduce staff pedometer challenges and ‘Healthwise Health Check Days' over the next six months, before concluding with a birthday party in September.

Phil Hooper, corporate affairs director, Sodexo, said: "Whilst we have had an approach to healthy eating over 25 years, it is probably more important today than it ever was.

"Tackling poor nutrition, obesity and health and well-being is as high on the social and political agenda as ever before."

Sodexo staff and customers will be offered health checks and advice to help raise awareness of key health indicators through Sodexo's Better Tomorrow Plan, by the company's nutrition and dietetics team. The pedometer challenge, which will see Sodexo staff report the total number of steps they are taking daily, is designed to highlight the importance of being active in the workplace.

The September birthday party will be used to highlight the programme's progress since it was first introduced. In addition to senior Sodexo staff and key figures in the foodservice industry, Sodexo Ambassador Matt Dawson will be in attendance.

Activity kicked off at Hotelympia in early March when Wan Mak, head of nutrition and dietetics, and executive chef Jim Norris, demonstrated how to create a healthy balanced meal without compromising on taste.

Hooper added: "Sodexo feeds over one million people every day, therefore, we see this as an opportunity to have a direct impact on positively influencing the health and well-being of a significant proportion of the population."
