SSP opens Camden Food Co in newly built Glasgow hospital
Travel caterer SSP, which operates food outlets in locations worldwide, has expanded its hospital market offering with the opening of a Camden Food Co in Glasgow.
The outlet will be located in the central area of the newly constructed Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and will serve sandwiches, hot snacks, salads and drinks.
Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK and Ireland said: "Camden has always been a brand that appeals to consumers who want to eat a balanced diet without compromising on taste. We have revised and reshaped the offer even further to meet the needs of hospital workers, visitors and patients, bringing high-street quality offers into the campus."
He added: "As experts in retail, we understand how to deliver high-street brands that are really attractive to customers as well as delivering incremental income for the hospital."
The local NHS has introduced a policy that insists on the availability and promotion of a wide range of healthy food and drink choices in the all the health board's food retail outlets.
SSP has worked with the health board to further improve the offer of healthy choices and reduce sugar, salt and fat content in products served. It is one of the first retailers in the NHS to make the step to remove all sugared drinks from sale.
SSP Group reported strong financial results for the year ended 30 September 2015 with an operating profit of £97.4m, up 17.6% from the previous year.
Like-for-like sales were up 3.7%, driven by growth in air passenger travel and retailing initiatives.
