Student Learning & Development Forum hopes to give students a ‘leg up'

This year's Institute of Hospitality Student Learning & Development Forum aims to give hospitality students a "leg up" into the industry.

Now in its 11th year, the forum is organised by the Institute's London branch and will take place on 21 November at the capital's Ham Yard hotel.

Companies attending include Firmdale Hotels, Dorchester Collection, the Ritz London, Edition Hotels, L'Oscar, LinkedIn, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Gig to Gig and MJ Inspire.

The Forum will focus on student employability and offer career advice and guidance. It will host 150 students from universities and colleges across the country, including the Edge Hotel School, Glion Institute of Higher Education, University of West London, Westminster Kingsway College and City College Norwich.

Michael Voigt (pictured), general manager of the luxury L'Oscar hotel, which is due to open in Holborn, London, next year, is organising the event in his role as education officer at the Institute of Hospitality. He said: "[It will] give students a leg up and show them how to engage with employers, how to perfectly present their LinkedIn profiles, how to present their CVs, how to do interviews, and we have a list of amazing guest speakers already."
