Students from Westminster Kingsway win 2012 Nestlé Toque d'Or title
Westminster Kingsway has been crowned winner of this year's Nestlé Toque d'Or, one of the UK's premier student catering competitions, sponsored by Nestlé Professional.
The winning team was announced at the grand final awards ceremony held at the Dorchester hotel today.
Chef James Tanner, the chairman of judges, said: "Big congratulations to Westminster Kingsway. The consistently high standards we see in this competition never cease to amaze me and the students always rise to the challenge, no matter what the task in hand!
"We should be proud of the calibre of students we have in this country."
Vince Cottom, lecturer at Westminster Kingsway College, added: "I thought this year's experience for the students was truly amazing - they were really encouraged to think on their feet and the new format helped develop their leadership and teamwork skills as well as exposing them to once-in-a-lifetime catering experiences.
Nestlé Professional managing director Neil Stephens congratulated the teams and thanked the partners who had made this year's competition possible.
"Westminster Kingsway and indeed all of our finalists demonstrated tremendous strength of character and skill that belies their age," he added.
Nestlé Toque d'Or, now in its 24th year, includes a wide-reaching programme of activity designed to be of real value to the hospitality industry from a skills, training, learning and development perspective.
