Peter Birnie has worked for 15 years in the hotel and restaurant industry, including ownership and management of a country house hotel, which won Michelin recognition, AA red stars and rosette awards. He also worked for more than 15 years in UK hotel and restaurant guides, carrying out assessment and consultancy with Egon Ronay and then the AA, where he was chief hotel and restaurant inspector from 2003 to 2008. Now an independent consultant, Birnie's clients include VisitBritain and East of England Tourism.
