Val Carter and Thomas Jelley named ‘game changers' by BITC
Aramark's Val Carter (pictured) and Sodexo's Thomas Jelley have been named ‘game changers' by Business in the Community (BITC), in recognition of their far-reaching contribution to corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The one-off game changer awards were launched to coincide with BITC's 30th year of campaigning on responsible business issues.
Carter, Aramark's corporate responsibility and training director, has played a part in initiatives such as the global Aramark Building Community volunteering programme and lead sponsorship of City Year in London, a youth and education charity that recruits 18-25 year olds to work in schools in deprived communities.
She commented: "Responsible businesses are successful businesses. Client, customers, partners and staff will proactively favour companies that act in an ethical manner, and rightly so."
Meanwhile Jelley, corporate citizenship manager for Sodexo's UK and Ireland business, is co-author of the contract caterer's global sustainability strategy to 2020, the Better Tomorrow Plan, as well as administrator of charity the Sodexo Foundation.
"Recognition as ‘Game Changer' from BITC was a surprise which I am thrilled to accept," said Jelley. "It is especially gratifying having changed careers to act on a strong conviction: corporate responsibility has been my own personal change management project since I decided to leave legal practice."
