Vegetable disguise from Pasta King

Vegetable disguise from Pasta King

A Devon-based supplier has come up with a sneaky way of ensuring schoolchildren eat their vegetables - by hiding them in the sauces that top their pasta meals. Pasta King in Newton Abbott has added small pieces of carrot to all its tomato-based sauces, which account for 23 of its 31-strong sauce range, and is experimenting with other clandestine vegetable options. The sauces are supplied in boxes each containing three 3kg chilled pouches and the minimum order is six boxes that can be a mix of different sauces. The group, which sold 12 million pasta meals last year, sells 80% of its products to the education sector. It also supplies a pasta bar unit in three sizes - which it says is now used in nearly 1,000 catering outlets - that allows precooked pasta to be refreshed instantly at the point of sale before being topped with sauce.
