Visible coldrooms from Caravell UK

Glazed doors are among the more unusual options on a range of quick-assembly modular coldrooms from Caravell UK, enabling users to keep a continuous eye on coldroom activity. Standard features include the ability to operate in high (43°C) ambient temperatures and a cam-lock assembly system which permits a complete coldroom to be assembled in as little as 30 minutes. Sizes range from Junior models in 1160mm and 1460mm depths to Senior and Ultra versions from 1760mm to 2960mm deep, with prices ranging from £2,350 to £8,950.

Bespoke sizes and customised versions are also available, with features such as dual-temperature rooms, stainless steel flooring and walls, floorless model (chiller only) and with choices in roof-mounted and with split-refrigeration systems.

Caravell has also introduced blast chillers and freezers which are compatible with most brands of combi-oven for minimum manual handling during cook-chill and banqueting operations. Made by Ital's Friulinox, the new cabinets range from the tabletop Chilly, able to chill 8kg batches of food in gastronorm 2/3 trays, to larger models up to 46kg chill capacity. Universal combi-compatible cabinets are made in versions for 20×1/1 and 20×2/1 capacities plus a parallel line of models specifically for use with Rational combis.

All models can be programmed with running times and cycle requirements (+3°C or -18°C) with audible and visual signals for the end of cycles or when preset times overrun. Chilling programmes can be set for soft or hard levels and programmes can be customised to specific foods with an identifying name memorised on the control panel for repeat operations. Options include a sterilising UVC lamp, condensation temperature control and connection to a built-in printer.

Caravell is linking with counterparts in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Benelux, Scandinavia and France in a
co-operative of medium-size refrigeration companies called CCG (Cooperative Cooling Group). Member companies - eight so far, including Norpe of Norway, Germany's AHT and Italy's Frigovell - plan to compete more effectively with multinationals by best-practice exchange, product development and joint marketing at trade shows and via the internet.
