Frae in Belfast to close after five years of trading

Frae restaurant near Belfast is to close after five years of trading due to “serious structural issues” with the building.

Chef Shaun Tinman opened the natural wine bar and sharing plates restaurant in late 2021, which has since received many positive reviews.

However, in a post on Instagram published this week, the chef confirmed Frae will cease trading in its current premises in Holywood.

He wrote: “Not to spin out a sorry tale about how hard the industry gets it, but a summer break to recharge and carry out some light renovation ended up unearthing some serious structural issues in the building. Too hefty to attend to, and left alone there’d have been a whole lot of soggy customers.

“It’s about 5 years since the first plate was served, now time for the 2nd album. Huge thanks to all customers, regulars, growers, suppliers, front of house, chefs and pot washers who’ve been through the doors since. All made this rickety restaurant much more than the sum of its parts.”

He encouraged the industry to get in touch with any interest in residencies, other suitable premises or events.
