Great British Menu star closes Glasgow restaurant

Grilled by Ajay Kumar in Glasgow has closed after a year of trading.

The restaurant was launched by the 2024 Great British Menu star in July 2025 with the aim of showcasing traditional Indian barbecue with a modern twist.

However, a notice on its website confirmed the team had made the “difficult decision” to close Grilled, which is “now permanently no longer trading”.

It stated: “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every guest who dined with us, celebrated special moments, and supported us over the years. Your loyalty and encouragement have meant the world to our team, and we are truly grateful to have shared so many wonderful memories with you.”

Grilled by Ajay Kumar has advised guests with gift vouchers to redeem these either at the two-AA-rosette sister restaurant Swadish, also in Glasgow, or to request a refund at info@swadish.co.uk.

Kumar was born in Punjab, India, and moved to Scotland in 2009. In 2019, he opened fine dining Indian restaurant Swadish by Ajay Kumar.
