Outgoing chairman Sir John Banham, who will be 65 in August, is retiring completely from his £195,000 position with the company. He has been at the helm of the hotel and restaurant operator for five years.
Whitbread chief executive Alan Parker said: "We have a strong platform to build upon in the three sectors of the leisure and hospitality market where we have leading positions. I am looking forward to working with Tony to deliver our strategy."
