Hammerson plans flagship hotel in Leeds

A 205-bedroom hotel is set to be the anchor of a new ‘cultural quarter' in Leeds following the redevelopment of a car park site.

The 14-storey Victoria Gate hotel will cater for business and leisure guests and will offer an on-site gym and conferencing facilities, as well as a ground-floor bar and restaurant. The hotel is expected to create 50 full-time jobs when it opens.

Landlord Hammerson, which owns and manages Victoria Leeds, is behind the plans for the regeneration of the 1,670 sq m site, adjacent to its Victoria Gate development. The new development is being designed by architect firm Acme, which also worked on Victoria Gate.

Robin Dobson, UK director of development and project management at Hammerson, commented: "Hammerson has a strong track record of delivery in Leeds City Centre and these plans for a new, contemporary hotel represent the next step in our wider regeneration plans, creating a mixed-use destination where people can live, work and relax, centred around our premium flagship destination, Victoria Leeds."
