Nicholls worked with chef director Matthew Cheal for nearly a decade
Matt Nicholls has left his role as head chef at the Michelin Guide-listed Cheal’s in Knowle, Solihull.
In an announcement on Instagram, chef director Matthew Cheal said: “After nearly a decade of working together, Matt Nicholls is moving onto new horizons… I’m extremely proud of our accomplishments at Cheal’s of Knowle and the memories we’ve made in and out of the kitchen. Wishing you the best of luck on your next adventure!”
Nicholls was also named 2018 Young Chef of the Year by the British Culinary Federation.
The Michelin Guide praised Cheal’s for dishes that showcase the team’s “adept modern technique”. The restaurant serves traditional British fare such as Cornish lamb, British beef fillet on the bone and English strawberry tart.
Cheal’s was launched by former Simpsons head chef Cheal in a historic cottage (pictured) in Warwickshire in 2015.
In 2023, the restaurant moved to its current location in Solihull, near Birmingham.
