100 guests flee fire at Darlington hotel

About 50 firefighters have been tackling a fire at a County Durham hotel since the early hours of Friday, the BBC is reporting.

Around 100 guests and staff have been evacuated from the three-star King's hotel at Priestgate in Darlington, which is operated by the Cairn Group.

Fire has damaged the whole of the four-storey building to the point where it is now in danger of collapsing, according to police reports.

Hotel guests have been taken to other hotels and the Dolphin Centre. The town's market is open for business.

The 86-bedroom hotel features a grand ballroom, and a ghost that apparently haunts the fourth floor.

The Cairn Group operates 16 hotels across the UK.
