Aberdeenshire hotel damaged in fire

A historic Victorian hotel in Aberdeenshire has suffered significant damage following a fire on Friday night.

Around 60 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze at the Darroch Learg hotel in Ballater after its roof was engulfed in flames.

The fire was finally brought under control by Saturday morning and it is reported that around two thirds of the building have been saved. There were no reports of any casualties.

Owners Nigel and Fiona Franks said they hoped to re-open the hotel as soon as possible.

"The fire was devastating but we have every intention of restoring Darroch Learg to its former glory and re-opening for business as soon as we can.

"The hard work starts now."
