Accidental chemical spill sees Helmsley hotel evacuated

A hotel in North Yorkshire was evacuated yesterday following reports of a chemical spill.

Fire crews were called to the Feversham Arms in Helmsley shortly after 1pm and discovered an accidental spill, which had produced a gas.

Cordons were put in place and the hotel and neighbouring properties evacuated.

Crews remained on the scene monitoring the spill and ventilating the building through the afternoon.

The material was eventually contained in a secure drum and firefighters left the scene in the evening.
