Accor to open new Mercure London Hyde Park hotel

French hotel group Accor is to open a new 78-bedroom hotel under its Mercure brand, in London's Talbot Square.

The four-star Mercure London Hyde Park hotel is expected to open within the next four months. It will be operated under a franchise agreement with owner London Town Hotels Group, who also operate the Mercure properties in London Paddington, London Kensington and Nottingham.

Koolesh Shah, managing director of London Town Hotels Group, said: "Mercure is a strong global brand which perfectly complements and exemplifies London Town Hotels' ethos of four star city centre hotels."

Jonathan Sheard, SVP operations luxury, upscale and midscale brands, Accor UK and Ireland, commented that the deal was a sign that the brand was holding up well even in competitive markets such as London.

"We are very happy to add another Mercure hotel to Accor's expanding portfolio, especially since it represents the further growth of a successful franchise relationship with London Town Hotels," he added.

There are currently 74 Mercure hotels in the UK, and more than 725 globally. Other brands from Accor, which has a presence in more than 90 countries, include Sofitel, Pullman, Novotel and ibis.
