Accor to open new Mercure Sheffield Parkway hotel
Hotel group Accor is to open a new Mercure hotel, the Sheffield Parkway, after entering into a franchise agreement with Dominvs Hospitality.
The 78-room bedroom hotel, which used to be the Aston Sheffield hotel, will open in July following refurbishment. It is four miles from Sheffield city centre, and within walking distance of the town's Meadow Hall Shopping Centre.
The hotel will form part of the mid-scale Mercure brand and has a bar, restaurant, event and meeting facilities, parking and free WiFi. There are currently 74 Mercure hotels in the UK, and 758 across the world.
It will be the second Mercure hotel in Sheffield, as there is already the four-star St Paul's Hotel and Spa in the city centre, which has a pool, spa, gym, restaurant, Champagne bar, and conference facilities.
Thomas Dubaere, chief operating officer, hotel services, Accor UK & Ireland, commented on the new hotel. He said: "The signing of this hotel is proof of the confidence in our Hotel Services offer as brand franchisor and proves that independent hotels are attracted to the strength of our distribution services and brands."
The Mercure brand is one of several under the Accor umbrella, which also includes Novotel, Sofitel, Pullman and Ibis.
There are over 3,500 Accor hotels in 92 countries worldwide.
