AccorHotels booking platform closed to independent hotels

AccorHotels' booking platform will no longer be open to independent hotels as "results have been below expectations".

The hotel group opened its AccorHotels.com distribution platform up to a selection of independent hotels two years ago to offer a broader choice to customers and an alternative booking platform to online travel agents like Expedia and Booking.com.

A spokesperson for AccorHotels said: "Results have been below expectations and demonstrate, in conjunction with customer feedback, that guests favour AccorHotels branded hotels when seeking accommodation on our platform.

"We have therefore decided that the marketplace initiative is no longer relevant to our strategy, and will be discontinued so we can focus even more of our efforts on the integration of our newly acquired brands and digital services."

AccorHotels had hoped its platform would offer more than 10,000 hotels in 300 key cities worldwide, or a threefold increase in the number of hotels on AccorHotels.com, as a result of the move.

The group has been busy this year, acquiring distribution platforms VeryChic, business travel hotel reservation company Gekko, and integrating its luxury private rental platforms Travel Keys, Squarebreak and Onefinestay under the Onefinestay brand.
