Amy McPherson to retire as president and CEO of Marriott International Europe

Amy McPherson is to step down as president and managing director of Marriott International in Europe after 32 years with the company.

She will leave Marriott at the end of March 2019 to nurture a start-up business in the UK of which she is a principal investor, as well as spend more time with her family in the US.

Arne Sorenson, president and chief executive of Marriott International, described McPherson as "one of [Marriott's] most accomplished, home-grown leaders" and said it would be hard to imagine life at the global hotel company without her.

McPherson joined Marriott in 1986 and has since worked in a succession of positions including vice-president of finance and business development, senior vice-president of business transformation and integration and senior vice-president of revenue management. This led to her promotion to executive vice-president of global sales and marketing, before she moved to her current role in 2010.

During the eight years she has headed Marriott's European business, McPherson has more than doubled the size of the portfolio, launched the AC and Moxy brands globally, and completed the integration of Starwood Hotels and Resorts into the company across the continent.

Marriott's European portfolio today comprises 563 hotels, including 85 properties in UK and Ireland.

Marriott said that it "anticipates announcing McPherson's successor shortly".
