Australian hotel company StayWell to launch in the UK
Australian hotel management company the StayWell Hospitality Group is to launch in the UK with the opening of a four-star, 272-bedroom property in Birmingham.
The Park Regis Birmingham, which is currently being developed at a cost of £100m, is due to open in 2014.
Situated overlooking the Five Ways roundabout close to the Bullring and the ICC, the hotel is being developed within the derelict Auchinleck House 12-storey, 1960s office block by StayWell. Financial support is being provided by real estate investment company Seven Capital.
The Park Regis Birmingham will include a lobby lounge and bar, rooftop restaurant and cocktail bar, library, gym, spa and business centre.
StayWell is also currently negotiating a management agreement for an upmarket hotel being developed in London, as well as exploring other potential hotel opportunities in the UK including new build and conversion sites in Manchester and Edinburgh.
Simon Wan, chief executive of StayWell, said that the company had been looking to move into the UK for some time.
"This is a massive step forward for StayWell and we are elated to have such a quality accommodation product added to our portfolio," he explained. "Our partners in the UK, Seven Capital, have identified a number of other opportunities in the region, which is very exciting for us and we hope to announce further additions to our portfolio very soon."
StayWell, which has a head office in Sydney, currently has 26 hotels in Australia, Singapore and Dubai across two brands - Park Regis (quality properties in prime locations) and Leisure (economy, value-for-money hotels).
