Beacon appoints supermarket boss as new director

Purchasing consortium Beacon has recruited a professional from the cut-throat world of supermarket retailing to be its new boss.

John Vinuesa was category director at the UK's largest supermarket chain, Tesco.

Prior to this he worked at Asda Wal-Mart for nine years, most recently as head of infrastructure development. He has also worked for high-street retailer Woolworths.

As director Vinuesa will oversee all aspects of operation at Beacon, which is the procurement arm of hotel consortium Best Western and a buyer for independent businesses across the UK.

He said: "I am looking forward to building on the progress which has already been made as well as bringing a new perspective to Beacon from my experience of customer-led strategies in the retail sector."
